Valencia have made Rafa Mir’s transfer to Wolves official.
On Tuesday claims came from Valencia regional newspaper Super Deporte that 20 year old Mir would be moving to Wolves for around €2m.
Mir had previously been close to joining Real Madrid, but the Spanish champions lost out in the chase.
Marca explained in their Wednesday edition that Real Madrid hadn’t wanted to go above €500k for the forward, given he’d initially be used for their second team. The Spanish newspaper also stated Jorge Mendes had been key for Wolves in getting the deal done, having a close relationship with Mir’s agent.
Wolves quadrupled that Madrid offer, spending extra to sign a player who they could have got next summer for free due to his contract situation.
Valencia have now confirmed the move, saying: ‘Valencia CF has closed on Wednesday an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club for the transfer of footballer Rafa Mir. Valencia CF appreciates his career as a Valencian and wishes him the best of luck in his new professional stage.’
