This week, the Spanish media broke the news regarding Real Madrid’s interest in a couple of Manchester City players, and one of them is João Cancelo.
It was newspaper AS who featured a front page story claiming the fullback became a target for next summer, saying the player is ‘already aware’ of the pursuit and he’d ‘gladly accept signing’ for the La Liga giants. The report said the operation would cost up to €45m.
This rumour was followed by more stories from the local press, and as Real Madrid dedicated website Bernabeu Digital now features a piece on the chase, they claim Cancelo’s arrival from Manchester City is ‘not necessary’.
It’s claimed that Manchester City would demand ‘at least’ €60m for the sale, and since Real Madrid currently have Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy for the fullback roles, Cancelo wouldn’t even have a guaranteed spot in the starting team.
Bernabeu Digital say the Spanish club should concentrate on reinforcing other positions, as spending that much on the Portuguese star would not make any sense.
