On April 17th, Tuttosport reported Tottenham Hotspur have sat down at the table to negotiate a deal for Albert Gudmundsson.
A week later, Calciomercato said Spurs have planned a summit with Genoa for the forward. The north London club are said to be competing with Inter Milan and Juventus in the summer window.
On Wednesday, InterLive.it stated Tottenham are in pole position and Fabio Paratici’s influence can help them overcome competition to sign the 26-year-old.
With multiple claims from Italy talking about interest from Serie A and the Premier League, Calciomercato.it got in touch with Gudmundsson’s father, Gugmundur Benediktsson, to find out his thoughts over his son’s future.
Benediktsson, who was a former professional footballer and a manager, was directly asked if his son should change clubs in the summer window.
“It’s a really difficult question. He loves his life in Genoa and I still see him there, but in football anything can happen. It should not be forgotten that Genoa are also a great club,” he said.
With Tottenham as the one of the interested parties from England, the player’s father was asked if he prefers his son to continue in Italy or if his dream is to move to the Premier League.
Responding to that, Benediktsson explained: “I think every footballer wants to play at the highest possible level and Albert is probably no exception. Personally, I would like to see him stay in Italy.”
The Iceland international has impressed for the Serie A side this season, scoring 16 goals and registering four assists from 34 games. Gudmundsson’s father was asked to give advice to his son over the ‘continuation of his career’.
“I always give him the same advice: enjoy every match, play with a smile because being a footballer is a privilege,” he added.
