Nottingham Forest’s chase for the Benfica goalkeeper Bruno Varela doesn’t seem very close to a happy ending.
As newspaper A Bola writes about the 23-year-old today, they claim that despite his stay at the Eagles being uncertain, there ‘hasn’t been any developments’ for his exit.
Benfica are said to still be available to sell him, as long as the interested club pay at least €15m for the transfer.
However, with no advanced negotiations on the way, Varela is now joining the team’s pre-season squad, which will travel to England tomorrow.
On Friday, the very same newspaper claimed that Varela’s sale had been left aside by Jorge Mendes, as the agent was busy with Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Juventus. Now that the big move is done, he could resume the negotiations.
Besides Varela, Nottingham Forest have also been linked to the FC Porto goalkeeper José Sá this week, who’s also a Jorge Mendes client.
Apparently there’s someone in Portugal helping Forest find a goalkeeper.
