Earlier this month, multiple claims from Belgium reported on Newcastle United’s interest in PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko.
On December 17th, journalist Sacha Tavolieri stated the Magpies offer will be entertained in the winter market.
Two days later, Voetbal Krant stated Newcastle have held positive talks with the 21-year-old’s camp. It was also said he’s keen on joining Eddie Howe’s side and the two parties are close to agreeing a deal.
A potential move to the Premier League side for Bakayoko has now been played down by PSV Inside. They have also relayed updates provided by Eindhovens Dagblad journalist Rik Elfrink.
The winger, who’s scored six goals and provided three assists from 21 games this season, is a key player PSV manager Peter Bosz.
Elfrink claims the Dutch club are ‘absolutely not inclined’ to let the Belgium international and other key members of the squad leave. He further adds the Eredivisie side would only change their stance on one condition.
“PSV desperately need the current group, including Johan Bakayoko, Ricardo Pepi and Malik Tillman. PSV aren’t really interested in this, except for bids well above the market value, and are still participating on three fronts,” he said.
PSV Inside state Newcastle have ‘no chance’ signing Bakayoko regardless of whether he’s open to a transfer. Howe may now have to look elsewhere to bolster his attacking options.
