Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır has become the ‘number one’ target for Newcastle United.
That’s according to Takvim, relayed by Fotomaç, who add the Tyneside club have become the latest side to emerge as the 25-year-old’s suitor.
Çakır has started 28 league games this season during which he has conceded 23 goals and kept 10 clean sheets in the process. The Trabzon club currently have a 12-point lead at the top of the table and are in driving seat to win the title in the ongoing campaign.
The custodian came up through the ranks of the Süper Lig side’s academy and admitted he doesn’t want to leave the club without winning the league.
“I was raised from Trabzonspor’s academy. Since my childhood, my biggest dream was to play at Trabzonspor and become a champion. We are moving rapidly towards this goal. We are very, very happy to see these days. As someone who grew up from the academy of this club, we have achieved great successes,” he said.
Takvim claims the keeper is ‘closely followed’ by clubs across Europe and the latest club to follow him are Eddie Howe’s side. The report further adds the Magpies will ‘knock on’ the Turkish club’s door for their star player in the summer.
Çakır’s current deal expires in 2024 and his club have an option to further extend it by a year.
There’s no mention whether Trabzonspor are in favour of the keeper’s sale in the next window.
