According to claims in the Italian media talks have stalled between Udinese and Napoli over the transfer of Orestis Karnezis.
Napoli looked to be in pole position to sign the Greek international, and these latest developments will give Newcastle United a boost in their pursuit of the keeper.
TMW have reported, originally from Il Messaggero, that a deal to sign Karnezis looks complicated for Napoli, which has led to a breakdown in talks. Along with Napoli, Newcastle United have been linked with the goalkeeper, with claims they’ve put in a bid for the player.
Earlier this week we covered reports from Italy that Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is looking to sign Karnezis, as the Spaniard continues to explore the possibility of bringing in an experienced goalkeeper. This summer Matz Sels joined Anderlecht on loan for the season, and Karnezis is an option for Benitez.
However, Newcastle United will have to convince Karnezis to come to England, with claims he’d prefer to remain in Italy. It’s been suggested the future of the Udinese player will be known in the coming days.
