According to a claim in the Italian media, Newcastle United are showing an interest in Udinese goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis.
The Greek international has been linked with a move away from the Serie A side this summer, but Napoli are also looking to sign the player.
TMW have today reported Karnezis is an option for Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez, and that the Premier League side have tabled a bid for the 32 year old.
Since the departure of Matz Sels earlier in the window Newcastle United have been repeatedly linked to experienced keepers, and have previously been linked with Napoli’s Pepe Reina.
Despite being Udinese’s first choice last season, Karnezis is still expected to leave the Italian club this summer, and Newcastle United could step in.
However, as it stands Napoli look to be pole position to sign Karnezis, but it all depends on the Serie A side’s pursuit of Geronimo Rulli.
The Real Sociedad keeper could join Napoli on loan for next season, or even permanently, which would mean they would pull out of the race for Karnezis.
