According to claims in the Italian media, Atalanta are back in for Middlesbrough midfielder Marten de Roon. It seemed the Serie A club had pulled out of the race to sign the Netherlands international due to Middlesbrough’s high demands, but things have changed over the past 24 hours.
TMW have reported, originally from Corriere di Bergamo, that Atalanta are still interested in signing De Roon this summer, and that he’s their No.1 target for central midfield.
Atalanta have qualified for Europe for the first time in decades, and subsequently they need to bring in reinforcements before the window closes, and Franck Kessie has also left the club to join AC Milan.
On Thursday, we covered claims Middlesbrough are demanding €17m for De Roon, but it’s unlikely Atalanta would offer this. Gazzetta dello Sport claim the Bergamo club will only bid €11m plus bonuses for the player.
Corriere di Bergamo’s optimism of a quick deal seems misplaced, Middlesbrough aren’t going to suddenly collapse their asking price, and it’s equally unlikely that Atalanta will come up with €17m.
