Back in the January transfer window, the links between Newcastle United and Benfica star Darwin Nunez just seemed inevitable. With the striker standing out for the Eagles and the Magpies looking at big signings following their takeover, it was soon said Eddie Howe’s side would try to take him to the Premier League.

That chase is today commented on by newspaper Record, who claim this is a story which shall continue in the summer.

The outlet recalls that when trying to sign Darwin in January, Newcastle’s offer was slightly less than €50m. That wasn’t enough to convince Benfica back then and will continue to be insufficient now.

It’s claimed the Eagles, following the player’s success and the list of clubs who are becoming interested in him, now believe they can make €80m with the sale in the summer.

Money isn’t the only issue Newcastle should be concerned with. Because according to Record, the Magpies ‘did not seduce’ Darwin in January as they’re a club ‘with no big international projection’.

The striker is said to be dreaming of joining a ‘powerful’ side. So for the Magpies to convince him, they’ll certainly have to use good arguments that can put them in the same level as the other competitors.
