Following the departure of Luis Diaz in January, it seems Porto could soon lose another one of their stars to the European market.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola today writes about Otávio, who’s been excelling for the Dragons this season and draws interest from several clubs abroad. In Portugal’s World Cup play-off against Turkey, he scored one goal and assisted another, with many picking him out as the star of the show.
One of the interested sides is said to be Newcastle United, who now have the 27-year-old ‘on their radar’.
A Bola claims that the midfielder, is a player who is ‘referenced’ by the Magpies as his ‘characteristics please’ those who are interested in signing him this summer.
Since Newcastle’s takeover, the club have been more frequently mentioned in reports regarding scouts in the Portuguese league, and have attended Porto matches multiple times. So it seems that a few months after the Magpies started that job, they already identified some targets for the next transfer market.
Otávio is protected by Porto with a release clause worth €60m. And judging by the competition for his signing, which includes Paris Saint Germain and more Premier League clubs, it’s predictable that the Dragons will use that price as a reference to negotiate his exit in the summer window.
