Among the countless players who Newcastle United have been linked to since the club’s takeover, there’s been claims of an intriguing return to the Magpies.
According to Ignazio Genuardi on Twitter, the Premier League club have had a couple of approaches turned down by their former midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
It’s reported that two ‘advances’ have been made by the St. James Park’s side in recent weeks, and both ‘rebuffed’ by the 31-year-old PSG player.
Besides Newcastle, it’s said the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus have both ‘mentioned’ the player, but didn’t follow up with talks for a move.
Wijnaldum continues to play regularly at Paris Saint Germain, with 25 appearances made this season, despite being relocated to the sides of the pitch a few times in recent months.
The report doesn’t mention how much it’d take for Newcastle United to take him from the French side, as Transfermarkt says he has a market value of €25m.
Signing for the Magpies in July 2015 from PSV, Wijnaldum was part of the Newcastle side which was relegated to the Championship. He then left for Liverpool, where he saw out his contract before joining PSG in 2021 as a free agent.
