Newcastle United are interested in the Chaves midfielder Stephen Eustáquio, according to the Portuguese press this Monday.
Newspaper Record says the Magpies watched the 21-year-old in action against Vitória de Guimarães this weekend, and were left ‘well impressed’ with his performance.
Although there have been no bids so far, Record claims that Newcastle have already let the player know about the chase will ‘make their interest official’ in the next few days.
The newspaper’s biggest focus is that the Magpies would fight Sporting in the battle for the midfielder, since the Lions’ interest was recently reported.
Record calls the Premier League side ‘threatening competition’.
Chaves are said to be demanding at least €7m for Eustáquio, and Sporting are planning to pay for part of the deal with some players. So maybe if Newcastle show up offering it all in cash, that would be an advantage for them.
Stephen Eustáquio was born in Canadá, but moved to Portugal as a kid and has even played for the European country at U21 level.
