Newcastle United continue to be named as one of the clubs chasing Nico Gonzalez, with it thought the Argentine is looking to leave Fiorentina this summer.

He wasn’t allowed to go last year when Brentford had a €40m offer refused, although it’s far from certain he would have wanted that transfer anyway.

Last season the 26-year-old played 44 matches for La Viola, scoring 15 goals and adding five assists. He can play on either wing and is left footed.

After sitting out the first match against Canada, Gonzalez picked up minutes in every game as Argentina won the 2024 Copa America. In total he has 39 caps for his country, with five goals scored.

Calciomercato report Newcastle United, Juventus and Atalanta are chasing the player, with the latter two thought to have gone a step further at this stage.

Gonzalez is set to have a meeting with Fiorentina on Monday when he’s expected to tell them he’d like to move elsewhere.

Fiorentina will know it’s unlikely they can get offers as high as €40m again, so €30-35m may do the trick. There’s longstanding transfer bad blood between La Viola and Juve, so they’d obviously rather sell to Newcastle if they get that choice.
