Back in January, following the injury to Jetro Willems, Newcastle United were looking for a left-back, eventually agreeing to loan Danny Rose from Tottenham.
Among their targets was Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam, who has struggled with many injuries over the past few years, but a shortage of cash meant they could only afford him on loan.
An offer was reportedly made, but the player, still wanting to try and prove himself under Gennaro Gattuso, turned them away to stay in Italy for the end of the season.
With that now over and game time still short, talk of an exit has reemerged, with Wolves the latest club to be linked thanks to his agent, Jorge Mendes.
However, Corriere dello Sport, who cover the situation, make it clear Newcastle haven’t said their last word despite being rejected seven months ago.
The newspaper state they were the ‘most combative’ in their pursuit of the player back in January, before ending with ‘maybe the club will even think of doing it again’.
They very well could, but that’s something we’ll have to wait and see in the coming weeks.
