Napoli have ‘mocked’ Everton and won the race for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhães this summer.

That’s according to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato, who says the defender is a ‘certainty’ to join the Italian side.

The Brazilian has long been linked with a move to Goodison Park, with Everton known to be on the hunt for a new centre-back.

They appeared to have a deal wrapped up earlier this year before the Coronavirus scuppered their plans and led to a delay in the potential transfer.

Several other suitors have emerged since then, including Napoli, who have identified the defender as an ideal replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly.

And they appear to have beaten Everton to his signature, at least as far as Venerato is concerned.

“I can give you with absolute certainty that after Osimhen, Napoli has placed the second purchase, it is Gabriel from Lille,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss, relayed by Il Napoli Online.

“The Brazilian defender will come for 25 million, all settled, they’ve mocked Ancelotti’s Everton.

“It will be announced after the sale of Koulibaly, not for 100 million, but he will certainly go away.”

The journalist does, however, have a more positive outlook on Everton’s hunt for Napoli midfielder Allan.

Like Gabriel, he’s long been linked with a move to Goodison Park, with links first appearing all the way in the January transfer market.

Rumours in recent weeks have indicated that Everton have even made a bid for his services, although the amount has varied with the source.

Venerato has backed up claims that a bid has been lodged but insists there is competition elsewhere for his signature.

“On Allan, I say that Everton offers 25 + 5 bonuses,” he added.

“If it’s increased a little more, he will be sold. Watch out for West Ham and Atlético Madrid.”
