Newcastle United’s chase for Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio today gets an interesting update from Mais Futebol.

The Portuguese outlet shares a story claiming the Magpies have been ‘studying’ the possibility of signing the player in the January transfer window.

It’s said Newcastle have been following Inácio since the last season, with their pursuit gaining strength in the past few weeks, and they are now considering ‘moving forward’ with the signing.

According to Mais Futebol, the Magpies are aware that there’s no negotiation for a January transfer, so the player would only move in case his €60m release clause is triggered.

The outlet highlights how important the centre-back is for Sporting and the Portuguese national team, and that’s why the Lions won’t be taking anything less than that.

The story comes out on the same day that newspaper Correio da Manhã said Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are all interested in Inácio as well.

So besides knowing how expensive he should be, Newcastle should be aware there’s big competition to bring the defender to the Premier League.
