Over the past month or so, we have started to see AS Roma plan for the future, with the sale of Jordan Veretout very much on their agenda.
The French midfielder doesn’t appear to be part of what José Mourinho wants at the club going forward, and Newcastle United have reportedly taken an interest.
After all, it’s a rather sensible target for the Magpies, as he knows the Premier League from his time at Aston Villa, and while that didn’t go all that well, mostly because the Villans weren’t great that year, he would know what to expect.
The price has also slightly dropped over the past few weeks, with a report towards the end of February claiming the Serie A side would want ‘no less than €25m’ for their man.
A fortnight or so after saw another article claiming Roma would want around €20m, with it claimed he had a request from Newcastle.
We then saw Eddie Howe’s side reportedly leading the chase for Veretout, and now we have a new price.
That comes from Corriere della Sera Roma, who make it clear the Newcastle target has seen his ‘price fixed at €18m’.
That’s a considerable reduction from a month ago, which will please those in charge of St James’ Park, as it appears the Italians really want him gone, and could be prepared to get rid at a price that entices those already keen on him and more.
