Following some rather heavy spending in January, all eyes will be on Newcastle this summer when it comes to the transfer market.
With Eddie Howe managing to turn the tide at St James’ Park and steering the Magpies away from the relegation zone, most expect the Tyneside club to stay up and plan accordingly for next season.
Various areas of the pitch will need improving, and there will come a point when a new goalkeeper will be needed.
Martin Dubravka is currently the number one at Newcastle, but at 33 years of age and the club planning an ambitious next few years, someone else could end up being the main shot stopper, with Thomas Strakosha reportedly being eyed up.
The Albania international has the advantage of being a free agent in the summer, since his deal at Lazio is expiring, and with Maurizio Sarri wanting someone else between the sticks, there’s an opportunity to strike a deal.
It’s said the Magpies ‘smell the free transfer deal’ that could help support Dubravka going forward, with the Slovakian tied to St James’ Park until 2025.
We’ll have to see if he stays until then, at which point he’ll be 36, but there’s no denying a change in the hierarchy is on the cards going forward at some point.
