Newcastle United are in the mix to sign VfB Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa, according to a report from Germany.
Operating mainly as a left wing-back, the Croatia international has impressed for the Bundesliga side, managing eight assists from 13 matches in all competitions this term. His displays have ensured him a place in the national squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Bild has a report on the 24-year-old’s future and when discussing his suitors, Newcastle United are tagged.
The Magpies, Inter Milan and Atalanta are the clubs ‘interested’ in the player, who has a deal with Stuttgart until 2025.
It’s claimed Sosa has ‘big plans’ for his future. With the likes of Eddie Howe’s side and the two Serie A clubs in the picture to sign him, ‘it is no longer a secret’ the Croatian wants to take the next step in his career.
He has even changed agents and is now represented by ICM Stellar. The German club’s supporters are worried about the possibility of seeing their star move elsewhere in the winter market.
Newcastle, Inter and Atalanta would have to wait until next summer to secure his services because Bild say a transfer in January is not on Sosa’s mind.
Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat has urged the left-back to finish this campaign with his current employer.
“The World Cup is a brutal showcase. But my clear wish is that Borna stays. He is an absolute quality player. It would be hard enough to replace him in the summer. A transfer in winter would not be good. That would weaken us. It’s very important that we maintain the quality of the squad. Then we will be strong enough to stay up in the league,” Mislintat told Bild.
