While a lot has been made of a potential January transfer of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City to Juventus, the latest from Italy suggests a move to Serie A isn’t top of the player’s list.
That would be to stay in the Premier League if possible, where clubs such as Newcastle United are interested in his services, as the Magpies have to make do with Sandro Tonali’s extensive ban.
Calciomercato have a big article on Juventus and their interest in Phillips, where they reveal the ‘truth’ about the England international and the Turin side.
While the Manchester City player might be looking ‘for a new adventure’, only a loan could be sorted out, as any other type of deal would be too expensive.
At Juventus, ‘different profiles are being evaluated’, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested, and if the door opens for a deal, ‘there would be no backing down’.
However, it’s also pointed out that, as things stand, ‘Phillips is not Juventus’ first choice and Juventus are not Phillips’ first-choice’.
Those at the top of the player’s wishlist are Newcastle, who ‘lead the pack of clubs’ ready to get ‘serious’ about a move for the midfielder.
This corroborates previous suggestions that the Magpies were indeed keen on the player and interested to get a deal done.
In short, Newcastle are at the front of the queue for now, but it remains to be seen whether Phillips’ current club are interested in sending him to a Premier League rival midway through the campaign.
