Tottenham Hotspur had an attempt to sign Sebastian Caceres from America turned down, according to reports from Mexico.
Fernando Esquivel writes on Twitter that Spurs were trying to sign the defender by paying £3m for the transfer, letting the North American side keep a big percentage of a future move.
America’s request to Tottenham had reportedly been of at least €5m, keeping a smaller percentage of a next sale. Their full valuation of the player is of €7m.
According to Esquivel, Spurs are not giving up at the first rejection, meaning the contacts are still on, and a ‘new update’ can be expected in the near future.
This week, reports from England and Mexico had indeed been saying Tottenham were interested in the 24-year-old, and it’s actually surprising that the club have already placed their first bid for a January move this early.
Caceres is Uruguayan and has been a starter in all of their matches in the World Cup Qualifiers so far.
He’s been playing in Mexico for nearly four years, and it seems a move to Europe could be taking place very soon, just as long as Tottenham increase their offer for him.
