The summer window may have just closed but that doesn’t mean transfer talk has died.
Many clubs weren’t able to get what they wanted in the last market, and January is expected to be more busy than usual. Some players didn’t want to switch clubs ahead of the World Cup later this year, and clubs are bound to be attracted by performances in that competition.
On top of that, there’s a large number of players with contracts expiring next summer, meaning they’ll be available on the cheap in January. That’s the case of Alejandro Grimaldo, with Arsenal and Newcastle United said to be interested.
TuttoJuve cover interest from Juventus, and present the Magpies and Gunners as competition for the Turin club. It’s made clear the Serie A side would be looking at a January transfer, and it’s thought Grimaldo would be available for ‘less than €10m’ in the winter market.
That may have some truth in it, given Benfica won’t want to lose the player for nothing. An interesting opportunity for Arsenal and Newcastle United to keep an eye on.
