When players are sold to new destinations and don’t immediately make the move, there’s always a bit of concern regarding how they’ll continue performing for the selling club.

And even though it’s been a long time since Manchester City bought Julian Alvarez from River Plate, the Buenos Aires side continue to be completely satisfied with his development there.

On Sunday, the Millonario beat Union de Santa Fé 5-1, with the striker scoring two goals in one more great display. That’s why in the press conference, manager Marcelo Gallardo couldn’t hide his satisfaction with the situation.

“Julian is days away from leaving and he plays every game as if it were his first. That is contagious,” said Gallardo (via La Nacion).

“Replacing Julian is difficult, so it’s important to replace him with performance. Today he is a player of great hierarchy, he had impressive growth, and that is why he is going to that club.”

According to TyC Sports, Alvarez is expected to play four more games for River Plate before completing the move to Manchester City.

Between the 26th of June and the 6th of July, they’re facing Lanus, Velez Sarsfield, Huracan and Velez Sarsfield again. There he’ll have the chance to become the club’s top scorer in the Marcelo Gallardo era, as he’s just two goals behind Rafal Borré.

Then Alvarez heads to Manchester City, presumably after a short holiday first, where he’ll need to impress Pep Guardiola.
