West Ham United are keen on Hans Vanaken and have already made a €10m offer to sign him, which was turned down by Club Brugge.
Club Brugge manager Carl Hoefkens said it is ‘logical’ for the star to want a move to the Hammers, but insisted he is hopeful the attacking midfielder stays at the club.
Saturday’s De Standaard has a report on the player, titled: ‘Vanaken is looking for an exit from Club Brugge’. West Ham’s interest is also discussed.
The Belgian champions don’t need money as they have already raised funds through sales of a few players. In addition, there isn’t enough time left to bring in a successor, if they decide to let go of Vanaken. This is viewed as an ‘impossible task’ in the final days of the window.
With a contract expiring in 2025, the newspaper explains there is no logical reason for the Jupiler Pro League winners to get rid of their ‘most important player’.
Vanaken will turn 30 years of age next Wednesday. With West Ham’s interest, he is aware this summer is his last chance to make a switch to a top league.
Having served Club Brugge for seven years, the Belgium international hopes to receive the green light for the exit from his employer.
The player isn’t the type to showcase unprofessional behaviour in training or inside the dressing room. Therefore, De Standaard state the ‘only remedy’ seems to be a ‘new, improved bid’ from David Moyes’ side.
He is hopeful that a new proposal from the Hammers should be able to convince Club Brugge. For this to happen, West Ham must first take this step. If not, Vanaken is likely to stay put.
