Depending on who you believe in France, Monaco’s interest in Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi is either brand new or has been ongoing for a very long time.

Over the past few days, L’Equipe have been pushing a potential transfer to Marseille for the 23-year-old defender, and it makes a lot of sense, considering every player in the Ligue 1 side’s squad capable of playing in his position is over 30.

However, they could face competition from last season’s champions, despite them not really needing a left-back, signing Jorge in January and bringing in Terrence Kongolo this summer.

Monaco’s interest in Amavi dates back to last year, according to Le Parisien, while France Football have them tracking him as recently as the beginning of August.

Well, Yahoo! Sport have now popped up with their own exclusive, claiming Leonardo Jardim’s side have now ‘entered the dance’ to sign the Aston Villa left-back, reaching out to his entourage.

As explained above, they don’t really need Amavi on paper, but who knows? Maybe Marseille’s progress in recent days has forced them to make a move and not miss out on a talented French defender?

One thing is certain, if he is to leave Villa Park, the young defender won’t be short of suitors.
