The Coronavirus break has been resulting in an impressive number of interviews every week. With newspapers looking for stories and footballers getting bored at home, this is the perfect scenario for that.
This weekend, Brighton fullback Ezequiel Schelotto has spoken to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. The 30-year-old spoke about how he and his family have been doing during the lockdown, as he respects all of the Seagulls’ instructions to stay fit at home.
“I’m trying to take this as best I can so I don’t go crazy. Here, in England, quarantine was not initially determined, as in other places, but they gave an indication to isolate ourselves,” Schelotto told O Jogo.
“In my case, with my wife and my three-year-old daughter, we stayed at home for four days now. But I have family in Italy who are struggling.”
Regarding his current season with Brighton, Schelotto is happy at the club, especially after another Argentine player joined the Premier League side this year.
“My present at Brighton is good, I was able to continue after my knee injury. I made an important recovery and now I’ll fight when we get back. Luckily I have been improving since the beginning of the year, I want to help the team to keep us in the division. We’re fighting for that as a team. I was happy with the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister because he’s one more Argentine and has a huge future.”
The reason O Jogo interviewed Schelotto is because of his past for Sporting. He played for the club between 2015 and 2017 before signing for Brighton in a €3m deal.
The player has claimed he still has some big affection for the Lions, as he keeps in touch with people from the club.
“I keep in touch with the squad and whenever I can I follow the games. I know that they’re not in a good phase now, as when I was there, but we all know that football is like that, there are good and bad times. Sporting gave me a lot and I tried to answer.
“People still send messages for me to return and in football you never know. I hope things go well for them, I like them very much and the country is great. My daughter is Portuguese, we have great memories with our family in Lisbon.”
