Perhaps not the most urgent priority at Manchester United these days, what with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and all, Tahith Chong’s future remains a problem for the Premier League club.
The young Dutchman is out of contract in the summer, and while there apparently was an attempt from the Red Devils to tie him down beyond this season, the winger is interested in looking elsewhere.
Feeling he deserves some more first-team football, the 20-year-old was in talks with a couple of Serie A clubs last week, notably Inter, with whom his agent sat down to discuss contract details.
Chong’s demands were quite excessive for a player who only has 12 first-team appearances to his name, and a counter offer was made.
It seems it wasn’t quite what the youngster wanted, as Corriere dello Sport report on Thursday that negotiations are ‘continuing’ regarding the free transfer of Chong, with Inter and Jiangsu Suning working ‘hand in hand’.
That suggests the idea of sending the forward to China remains active, and we’ll have to see if that’s something the Manchester United talent wants.
