We expected this to happen as soon as the rumour first made an appearance in Il Messaggero, and it has: Wojciech Szczesny to Napoli is picking up pace.

The Arsenal goalkeeper, currently on loan at Roma, has become Aurelio de Laurentiis’ number one target to replace Pepe Reina, and most outlets in Italy are now reporting the story.

Il Mattino on Wednesday dedicate a whole page to it, claiming two of Napoli’s current squad, Arkadiusz Milik and Piotr Zielinski, are actively pushing their club to go for Szczesny and buy him from the Gunners for next season.

Of course, a lot depends on Arsenal, who could move on from a declining Petr Cech and return to their Polish squad member after two successful years in Italy.

Yesterday, Calciomercato relayed Radio Kiss Kiss, stating Szczesny and his representatives would meet with the Gunners on the 5th of May to discuss his future in London.

With a contract running out in June 2018, this summer is decisive for the Poland international, with two options presenting themselves to him: renewing his contract at the Emirates or getting sold in the upcoming transfer window.

Napoli are expected to wait until after this meeting to make their move, as an extension in London would place the goalkeeper out of their price range.

We should have a few answers in a week or so.
