There are two reasons why Manchester United star Edinson Cavani is featured in headlines from the South American media today.
One of them is the news about his availability to represent the national team in the upcoming games against Colombia and Brazil.
As the striker is still to start a single match for the Red Devils this season, Uruguay can’t confirm how many minutes he will have on international duty, despite claiming he’s fit to enter the pitch.
“He is able to play with the same generosity that he has always done,” said Uruguay assistant coach Celso Otero (via Marca Claro).
“I think no one can say how many minutes he can play, we’ll see it from the moment he participates in the game, although it may be unknown if it’s from the beginning or coming in. We’ll see how much of what he usually does he can do right now.”
Cavani has only played 93 minutes for Manchester United this season, and depending on how much he’s used by Uruguay in the next couple of games, that could show Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been holding him back due to fitness.
The other story regarding Cavani is about his new biography, written by Ricardo Molina. Outlet AS brings a few parts of it, especially from the striker’s time at Paris Saint Germain, which shows how humble he is.
“He used to often go and eat with the club employees and not with his teammates, the ‘stars’. He always spoke with the cleaning ladies, with the housekeepers.
“Do you know that Cavani spent a month on vacation in his hometown of Salto? In the middle of winter there! It was 7 degrees and he arrived by regional bus. Six hours by road! When you earn €16m a year, it is not common…”
