There are few things Marca enjoy more than pouring cold water on Barcelona’s transfer plans, whether that be players arriving at or leaving the club.
Last week they rubbished claims that Nelson Semedo was set to sign for Manchester City, explaining he’d been offered to Pep Guardiola’s club but they hadn’t yet taken a bite.
This week they rubbish the idea of Tottenham Hotspur having any genuine interest in Philippe Coutinho. Claims had been emerging in the English and Catalan media, stating Spurs as a potential destination and reporting interest.
Marca’s Monday edition explains Coutinho has been offered to Tottenham for a transfer this summer, but Jose Mourinho ‘doesn’t contemplate’ signing the Brazilian. The Spurs boss ‘closes the door’ to the Barcelona player.
Tottenham’s major concern with Coutinho is his salary, put at €15m a season. Therefore, if Barca and the player’s agents want to try and tempt Mourinho again, they’re going to have to do something to bring that €15m figure down.
