Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to sign Celta Vigo’s Hugo Sotelo, according to La Voz de Galicia journalist Pablo Carballo, relayed by Moi Celeste.
The 20-year-old came up through the ranks of the La Liga side’s youth system and made his way into first team in 2021. He made 28 appearances in all competitions, of which five are from this season.
Last week, Sotelo’s extended his deal at the Spanish club until 2028. He then thanked his mother, Fátima. According to Carballo, she has played a ‘very important’ role in his career.
He then talks about the bid made by Wolves when the midfielder was still at Celta’s youth system. The Premier League side were closely monitoring on a few Celta youngsters five years ago.
Sotelo was included in this list and the journalist claims Wolves made an offer for him. His mother wasn’t in favour of the youngster moving to England and rejected their proposal.
The Spaniard has gained more prominence ever since Claudio Giráldez was appointed as the new Celta manager back in March.
Moi Celeste say it’s ‘undeniable’ he has an ‘immense quality’ and there’s hope that Sotelo would be at the club for a long time. Celta seem to be delighted as this wouldn’t have happened if the player had accepted Wolves’ offer.
