Bought from Sampdoria, Lucas Torreira was expected to have a big role at Arsenal.
And he did last season, making 24 starts in the Premier League in 34 appearances, yet something never quite clicked, with Mattéo Guendouzi quickly becoming the crowd favourite.
All this led to a summer of speculation for the Uruguayan, with claims Milan were interested, but he stayed in London, seemingly wanting to prove the doubters wrong.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t worked out for him, as Guendouzi has remained the starter alongside Granit Xhaka (although that seems set to change soon), and there’s reports in Italy Torreira is unhappy.
TuttoMercatoWeb are running with it on Thursday, claiming the player ‘isn’t living a good moment’ at Arsenal, ‘unsatisfied’ and ‘seems a little unhappy about his adventure in England’.
The Italian website claim there is a meeting planned in the next few weeks (we’re guessing with Arsenal) where talks will be held about his situation, and if things don’t go in his favour, he ‘could leave Arsenal in January’.
It’s said Torreira ‘wants to understand his role in Arsenal’s project’, and the next week could say a lot about his future.
One to keep an eye on.
