‘Matheus Nunes doesn’t want Wolves’. This is a headline used today by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, and with such clear words, their readers perhaps don’t even need to read the full story to see what’s going on there.
The outlet writes that following this week’s rumours claiming Wolverhampton Wanderers could try to sign the Sporting midfielder this summer, the player is not interested in making such move, as he’s only leaving the Lions to join a club who’d fight for titles.
That’s where Manchester City comes in, as he’s also been linked to Pep Guardiola’s side, and since then, ‘dreams’ of making the move to the current Premier League champions.
A Bola recalls that Nunes had already turned down a move to the Premier League this year, and that’s when Newcastle made an approach for him in January. On that occasion, he told his agents he wasn’t keen on it, and the ‘disapproval’ repeats itself with Wolves.
Now since Pep Guardiola made public comments towards Nunes, with A Bola adding that there were indeed ‘informal’ conversations between Sporting and Manchester City about a transfer, it’s said the midfielder ‘knows’ he’s in the manager’s eyes.
The newspaper points out the ‘privileged relationship’ between the Lions and Citizens could ‘work in favour’ of an eventual move, and when speaking to all clubs interested, the Lisbon side have already made it known that the player is not moving for less than €40m.
