Leander Dendoncker is one of Belgian football’s growing stars. The 22 year old is fiercely ambitious, and hasn’t hidden his plans to the leave Anderlecht in the short to medium term.
Even during the summer transfer window, it appeared that Dendoncker was edging for a way out, with Manchester United one of a number of clubs linked with signing the powerful midfielder.
Manchester United links have continued and Dendoncker has somewhat encouraged that himself. Speaking to Belgian magazine Sport/Foot at the end of last month, Dendoncker was asked about rumours he could have moved to Old Trafford already.
Not one to hide his ambition, the player made it clear he’d be up for it: “If it was as concrete as was being said, if they wanted me at all costs, I’d already be there. When you play for Anderlecht and you have the chance to go there, you don’t hesitate, but Anderlecht had their bit to say. Everyone had to agree.”
Those words have only encouraged further Manchester United rumours, and on Saturday the club had a scout watch Anderlecht’s match away to Excel Mouscron. The visitors won 2-1 and Anderlecht Online seem to have no doubt Manchester United’s official was there for Dendoncker.
Manchester United may not have things all their own way should they make a move for the youngster, with Barcelona also having an official at the match, and others including Chelsea scouting Anderlecht in recents weeks.
Scouts have been travelling to watch Anderlecht from Manchester United for some time, so the club will be well aware of Leander Dendoncker.
