Alvaro Negredo ended his Middlesbrough goal drought in some style at the weekend, earning his side a point against Premier League champions Leicester City.
Having not scored since the opening match of Middlesbrough’s season, Negredo put Middlesbrough ahead before Riyad Mahrez levelled, and then did the same again before Islam Slimani levelled with an injury time penalty.
It will be a big boost for Negredo and his hopes of a kickstart season at Middlesbrough. Clearly having the confidence of manager Aitor Karanka, Negredo still needs goals to convince others and to get his own confidence back to the right level.
His performance has been recognised by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport who have picked Negredo in their European Team of the Week. One of only two Premier League players chosen, the other being Chelsea’s Pedro, Negredo is picked as the main man upfront.
Each week Gazzetta pick an eleven they deem to have performed the best in the weekend’s set of matches, and Negredo is one of them.
