Middlesbrough fullback Fabio da Silva seems to fancy a return to Brazil. According to ESPN Brasil, the former Manchester United player has been recently offered to Cruzeiro and Palmeiras.

Both clubs are having problems with left-backs, and are said to be analysing the possibility of signing Fabio from Middlesrbough. It’s not mentioned if the player would be released for free or if Boro would demand a fee, since he still has one year of contract left with the Championship club.

Fabio has never played professionally in Brazil. He was signed by Manchester United alongside his twin brother Rafael when they were still at Fluminense’s academy, and moved to England when turned 18.

Despite Cruzeiro and Palmeiras being big clubs, Fabio would almost certainly have to accept a pay-cut to return to his home country from Middlesbrough. It may be different if Fabio was an attacking star, but they’re unlikely to break the bank for a fullback.
