Joao Cancelo and Wolves has been a curious tale over the past few days. Inter Milan had a €35-38m clause to turn their loan from Valencia into a permanent deal but they didn’t have the financial certainty to activate that.
There were suggestions in Italy that Inter could return later in the window and negotiate a new deal, but there’s always the danger of someone else swooping in.
Manchester United, Juventus and Wolves have been linked, with a claim the latter offered €40m.
Valencia’s local newspaper Super Deporte have covered Wolves interest, yet haven’t claimed that offer has been made, instead saying €40m is the asking price.
Now Italy’s Calciomercato report Valencia had accepted €40m from Wolves and Jorge Mendes was on the verge of getting the deal done, but it’s now ‘frozen’. That’s because Cancelo himself ‘isn’t convinced’ and would prefer to wait for a Champions League club.
It’s not dead, with all bases covered, and the Italian newspaper say Mendes will continue to push the Wolves route.
