Despite endless links between Kylian Mbappe and Liverpool over the past year or so, a move has longed seemed very unlikely.

That’s due to the finances involved in such an operation, likely out of reach for the Reds especially given the way Covid-19 has impacted finances throughout football.

But what if Mbappe was free? RMC now bring a story on PSG’s huge fear of losing the striker for nothing when his contract expires in June 2022.

The French club had been relatively calm about such a scenario, yet now Mbappe has less than a year left on his current deal and it’s reported in France that, as it stands, he doesn’t want to renew.

He’s undecided on his future and dialogue with Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, has broken down.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are named as interested parties, although it’s suggested if the Ligue 1 side wanted to sell this summer those clubs would struggle to get the funds together.

PSG would see a free exit as a huge blow and do everything in their power to avoid it. Part of that involves building a team that Mbappe feels can be successful, underlining his power at the club.

Should that fail then the worries of a free exit will only grow.
