Clearly part of the undesired bunch at the Emirates, Mathieu Debuchy’s time at Arsenal appears to be coming to an end.
Playing a grand total of 16 minutes of first-team football for the Gunners last season, the 31-year-old is apparently on the verge of making yet another return to Ligue 1 football by signing for Nice, according to RMC Sport.
The French media outlet, via their journalist Tristan Molineri, report that Debuchy is expected in the south of France in the next 48 hours to have a medical ahead of a move to the third best team in Ligue 1 next year.
Despite hopes of playing in the Champions League after their impressive season, Lucien Favre’s team have a big hurdle to overcome in the shape of Ajax in their third round qualifier to make it to the competition.
Brief cameo against Bournemouth aside, Debuchy missed a chunk of last season through injury, and when he wasn’t playing for the club’s reserves, he was left out of the squad altogether, making the bench just once, in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Sutton in the FA Cup.
The nightmare appears to be finally over.
