Celtic picked up their first silverware of this season by overcoming Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final in February. It was Carl Starfelt’s third trophy since joining Ange Postecoglou’s side in 2021.

Celtic are leading the league table and are nine points ahead of Rangers. Postecoglou’s side are in contention to win the Scottish Premiership title and also the Scottish FA Cup this season, much more than what Michael Beale’s side look set to achieve.

Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, the defender said Celtic are aiming to win more trophies this season after their last success against Rangers.

On beating Rangers to win Scottish League Cup, Starfelt said: “It means a lot at Celtic. We have the pressure to win titles there. It means a lot to many people. It was important to beat Rangers in the final.

“It has been great, apart from recently winning the first title of the year, we are also going strong in the league. So, I come here to the national team with many victories in my bag.”

Starfelt has insisted there are no fitness issues after an injury forced Ange Postecoglou to replace him in his side’s Scottish FA Cup win over Hearts earlier this month.

The Sweden international was not forced to miss a fixture for Celtic as he played the full 90 minutes in their 3-1 league win over Hibernian last weekend.

“Last week I had some problems, but now it’s good and I played 90 minutes last Saturday. There shouldn’t be any problems. I feel in good physical shape. There was a small injury to a muscle, but it feels good now,” Starfelt explained.

Celtic picked up their first silverware of this season by overcoming Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final in February. It was the Sweden international’s third trophy with the club since he arrived at Celtic Park in 2021.

The Celtic centre-back is currently with Sweden, preparing for the European qualifiers against Belgium and Azerbaijan this month. He will have to compete with Victor Nilsson Lindelöf, Hjalmar Ekdal, Isak Hien and Edvin Kurtulus for a place in the starting lineup.

“It’s tough competition. That’s how it should be in the national team. There are many who have done well in club teams. You have to try to show in training that you want to play. I aim to start and try to show it in training,” the Celtic player added.
