Tuesday’s big football story in the Netherlands is Ajax interest in Steven Bergwijn.

It would be a very controversial transfer, with PSV obviously being against the idea of selling star players to their rivals.

De Telegraaf stated Ajax are ‘working behind the scenes’ on what would be one of the ‘most spectacular transfers in the Netherlands… ever’.

They also mentioned Manchester United interest, explaining: ‘Until now, he has completely left the contacts with other clubs, such as Manchester United and Internazionale, to his agent. Of course, it is ultimately up to the player to make a decision.’

Now any interest from Old Trafford has received a boost, because PSV want to make it as clear as possible they won’t sell Berwijn to Ajax this summer.

The club had earlier put out a line that the transfer would be not even be negotiated, and now their manager has gone further.

Quoted by De Telegraaf, Mark van Bommel said: “I can tell you that’s not going to happen to Steven. Maybe a foreign transfer, but not a domestic one.”

That would give hope to Manchester United, Inter Milan and any other interested clubs.

Bergwijn, a 21 year old right-footer can play on the left or right wing. He has 15 goals and 13 assists this season, and PSV are looking for something around the €34m they sold Memphis Depay for.
