Leeds United are on the right track to sign Juventus’ Weston McKennie.

Prior to the Whites’ approach, a few other mid-table Premier League sides failed to sign the midfielder earlier this month.

Tuttosport detail why the American has said yes to Leeds after snubbing other English clubs not long ago.

The Whites are co-owned by America’s 49ers Enterprises, have an American manager in Jesse Marsch and two of McKennie’s compatriots, Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson, in the squad.

It’s claimed the 24-year-old has held talks with Marsch in recent days. This, coupled with the ‘large presence of Americans at Leeds’ were ‘decisive’ for him to be convinced. The English club also have ambitious plans despite sitting in 15th place in the table.

Leeds’ ambition was confirmed when they tabled a €28m bid for McKennie.

This won’t be enough for the Serie A side as they are requesting €35m fee. The difference, as per the report, is ‘not insignificant’ and can be reduced by using bonuses to find an agreement.

Juventus would also be willing to let the player leave on loan with an obligation to buy if they were to receive the money they requested.

The leaders of the Turin club and Leeds will devote the next few days to look for the meeting point, while it may take a few hours to reach an agreement.
