According to Greek website Sdna.Gr, Leeds United defender Vurnon Anita is still discussing his release from the Elland Road club.
We covered initial claims from Greece that Panathinaikos are interested in signing the 30 year old, but today Sdna report he’s yet to terminate his contract with Leeds United.
Panathinaikos sporting director Nikos Dabizas is looking to strengthen his squad and the former Newcastle United defender has been using his contracts in England to bring in players.
The Greek website claims Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa isn’t keen to keep Anita in his squad for next season after sending him out on loan to Williem II during the last campaign. However, the player is reportedly earning €700K a year with the Championship side, a salary which Pana will struggle to offer.
Leeds United are said to have offered to cover a percentage of Anita’s wages as they are keen to get him off their books.
Both clubs will continue to talk on a daily basis says Sdna, and new developments could happen in the near future.
Anita’s contract with Leeds will expire at the end of June 2020.
