On Tuesday morning, Marca published their big claim that Mateo Kovacic was a step away from joining Chelsea on a year long loan.
The Croatian midfielder has been open with his desire to leave Real Madrid this summer, telling Marca that in an interview during the World Cup.
Kovacic doesn’t feel he has enough prominence at Madrid or that he’s about to get it, and he thinks it’s harmed his standing for the national team.
Real Madrid have been reluctant to lose the player but have given in, due to his demands.
Wednesday’s edition of AS reported that, whilst the loan to Chelsea was being worked on, Kovacic wasn’t happy that there was no option of a permanent deal.
Spain’s ABC also reported interest from Tottenham and Inter Milan.
Now Marca are back on it and they say Kovacic is already travelling to London to have a Chelsea medical and complete the transfer… but they add that it’s still on a loan basis with no buying clause.
As far as Marca are concerned, this is a straight loan and the midfielder ‘must return next year’.
