Manchester United are chasing Real Madrid star Raphaël Varane, according to multiple reports from Spain.
The defender’s contract runs down in 2022 and AS recently explained his club future is uncertain.
These claims have also been backed up by Mundo Deportivo on Sunday, and they provide the La Liga winners’ stance on the 27-year-old for the next window.
Zinedine Zidane’s side have no intention to make the centre-back available in the market. However, they don’t rule out the possibility to sell the Frenchman, if they continue to see he is ‘thinking more about leaving than staying’.
It’s claimed the World Cup winner has a market in the Premier League, where United ‘want’ him. The Red Devils first showed interest in Varane even before he moved to Real Madrid in 2011.
Should Varane decide against signing an extension, the 13-time European champions will be forced to cash in from his sale in the summer, to not let him leave for free in 2022.
Varane has a market value of €70m, but Real Madrid are hoping to earn €100m through his possible exit in the summer.
Another Catalan newspaper Sport explains the central defender is a ‘very desirable footballer’ for a few clubs, including United.
Sport adds Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, along with other two suitors, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, ‘will not hesitate’ to recruit Varane.
Varane has long been a target for United and if he decides against signing a new deal at Real Madrid, the English club will be presented a new opportunity to make a fresh approach for him in the summer.
