Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes gets an entire page from newspaper A Bola today, as he’s compared to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
The outlet puts the midfielders side to side as Fernandes, who has scored 23 goals this season, is close to reaching Lampard’s record of 27, scored in the 2009/10 season.
The former Chelsea player is the central midfielder with most goals in a season this century, and with 11 games to go, the Sporting star could still tie or overcome this mark.
For Fernandes to do that, there are still a few players to be beaten. A Bola shows he’s already tied with Michael Ballack from 2001/02 and Henrikh Mkhitaryan from 2015/16. But with 24 goals scored, there are Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure, who’ve done it in the 2008/09 and the 2013/14 seasons, respectively.
Added to all those stats, A Bola says this qualities make Fernandes more valuable, and that should have an impact in the transfer market.
They say the midfielder is ‘being followed attentively’ by Manchester United, who have him as a target for the summer and promise to be a big competitor, making Sporting ‘pressured’.
Earlier this week, the newspaper already said that the first contacts with Sporting and with the player’s entourage have already been made by the Red Devils.
