Ronald Araújo’s long-term future at Barcelona is yet to be clarified and it has allowed the likes of Manchester United to make an effort to sign him in the summer.
The defender’s current deal expires in 2023 and has not accepted the renewal offer made by the La Liga side so far, even though he is happy with his life at Barcelona, both on and off the pitch.
Last week, Mundo Deportivo reported the Red Devils are ‘pushing hard’ to secure the 23-year-old’s services. On March 16th, journalist Gerard Romero stated the Manchester club have proposed an offer of around €8m to centre-back.
Barca vice-president Rafa Yuste told Catalunya Ràdio on Tuesday that he is optimistic over the Uruguay international signing a new deal at the Camp Nou.
Araújo is one of the lowest earners at the club and according to Catalunya Ràdio, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga side have made an offer that will see his ‘current salary triple’.
As Xavi Hernández’s side continue to negotiate the player’s renewal, the Barcelona leaders have sent their final offer to his representatives. The report says ‘it is an ‘immovable offer’ and the Catalan club will not improve it further.
United, meanwhile, still ‘press hard’ to secure his signature and the Manchester club have made an ‘outstanding offer’ to the South American. Barcelona, on the other hand, ‘expect the answer’ from him.
The ball is now in Araújo’s court, whose desire is to continue with Xavi’s side, but is also handling offers from the Old Trafford club.
