Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claim Manchester United will face competition from Bayern Munich for Nelson Semedo. It’s claimed the Bavarian club see Semedo as an ideal option for renewal in their squad, with Philipp Lahm and Rafinha not getting any younger.
The 23 year old is a right footed right back but can also play at left back.
He has a contract with Benfica until June 2021, with a buyout clause of €60m. Despite that clause, O Jogo reckon Benfica will start talking at around €40m.
In all honesty this, like the majority of Nelson Semedo rumours, seems like Benfica trying to have the player’s value talked up. Manchester United have been repeatedly linked, with Jose Mourinho’s club often sending spies to watch Benfica matches.
Dragging Bayern in makes things more spicy for Manchester United, given that the Old Trafford club lost out on Renato Sanches last year.
At this stage there doesn’t look to be anything genuine in this.
Things may change if Semedo continues to progress, and it’s worth keeping an eye on.
