On April 4th, we covered claims from Brazil that Manchester United are advancing to try and sign Palmeiras wonderkid Thalys.
Two days later, journalist Jorge Nicola explained the Red Devils have made contact, but they want to wait before making an offer.
The 19-year-old continues to be on Manchester United’s radar, as per ESPN in Brazil.
Thalys is yet to make his first team debut and has been with the Palmeiras U20 side since last year. The Brazilian has scored 10 goals and registered an assist from 28 games so far.
There’s belief in the striker’s country that he would have a bright future ahead and will soon make his debut for the senior team. That hasn’t happened yet and he’s still playing with the U20 side.
His last outing with Palmeiras U20 was in their 2-0 win over Corinthians on Tuesday. ESPN claim Manchester United sent their representative to Brazil to watch the attacker live in action during this match.
Thalys played the full 90 minutes but wasn’t able to get his name on the scoresheet. It looks like Manchester United are preparing the groundwork for a possible approach to sign him in the coming months, with the man of the group working to decide whether he’s a player to go all out for.
Earlier claims have stated the South American has a €40m release clause in his contract, but he could likely be secured for less.
